Safer Streets
With heavy cut-through traffic along Fischer-Hallman and Huron, we will push for proactive traffic calming including better speed enforcement in safety zones. We will improve school zones and neighbourhood crossings with raised crosswalks, improved sightlines, and traffic signals to protect children walking to school. We will support protected bike lanes and sidewalks connecting into the broader city network. Working with Waterloo Regional Police and city transportation planners, we will use traffic data and resident reports to address danger spots before accidents happen.
Smart Growth
Housing density must not outgrow roads, community centres, and schools. We will work with developers and city planning staff to support mixed-use zoning that brings everyday conveniences, local businesses, and community spaces into Ward 5 subdivisions. We will push for expanded Grand River Transit routes and higher service frequency so residents have real alternatives to driving. Growth must preserve the character of established neighbourhoods while accommodating transit-oriented density.
Responsible Spending
With household budgets stretched thin, City Hall must show responsible use of every taxpayer dollar. We will audit capital budgets, cut redundant costs, and prioritize road resurfacing, snow clearing, and water systems. By going after regional, provincial, and federal infrastructure grants, we can fund improvements without increasing the burden on Kitchener property owners. We will push for transparent budget reporting so residents can see exactly where their money goes.
Parks and a Greener Ward
Ward 5 has natural trails and woodlands worth protecting. We will secure parkland in developing subdivisions so every family is within walking distance of green space. We will invest in trail connections linking neighbourhood paths to the Huron Natural Area and Grand River corridors. Drawing on climate fund experience, we will push for native tree planting and green stormwater systems to keep Ward 5 resilient.
Accountable Leadership
Good representation means showing up. We will hold regular open Ward 5 town halls and informal community chats to hear concerns directly. Residents will get digital newsletters on upcoming council agendas and how we plan to vote. When someone contacts us about a pothole, transit gap, or city service issue, they will get a direct response and real follow-through.
